Phoenix Mercury sign guard Celeste Taylor to contract

The Phoenix Mercury have signed guard Celeste Taylor to a rest-of-season contract.

Taylor signed her third and final seven-day contract with the Mercury on Aug. 30. She's appeared in 10 games so far for Phoenix, averaging 2.7 points and 1.0 assists in 12.2 minutes per game.

"This is a place that took a chance on me and believed in me, all the way through the line from the players to the staff to the front office," Taylor told Desert Wave Media reporters during a postgame press conference on Thursday.

Taylor has received support from her new teammates, including Mercury guard Natasha Cloud. "She's Celeste Taylor. That's all her," Cloud tweeted to her X account during Phoenix's victory against the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday night. The win led to the team clinching a spot in the WNBA playoffs.

The team signed Australian Olympian Amy Atwell to a seven-day contract on Thursday morning. Later that evening, the 6-foot guard played her first game for Phoenix during the team's 90-77 loss to the Washington Mystics.

Atwell's contract will expire on Sept. 12 at midnight.

The Mercury are on the road for their next game against the Seattle Storm on Saturday.
