Three children were struck by cars in separate incidents on Halloween, Tacoma police say

In three different incidents, children were struck by vehicles while walking in Tacoma on Halloween night.

An 8-year-old child was walking in the intersection of Nassau Avenue Northeast and Northshore Parkway Northeast when a vehicle struck them at about 6:30 p.m. The child had minor injuries and did not need to be hospitalized, Tacoma Police Department detective William Muse said in an email to The News Tribune.

The driver cooperated with the investigation, Muse said. No arrest was made, but the driver received a notice of infraction.

At 7:45 p.m., another 8-year-old was walking near the intersection of East 59th and Portland Avenue when they were struck by a vehicle, the email said. The child suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The child's condition was not available Friday afternoon, Muse said.

The vehicle's driver and several witnesses remained at the accident scene. The Tacoma Police Collision Investigation Team responded, the email said. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

A 13-year-old child was struck when walking in the intersection of East 96th Street and A Street at about 8:30 p.m. The child was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, Muse said. The child's condition was also not known Friday.

The driver and witnesses stayed at the accident scene, the email said. The Tacoma Police Collision Investigation Team was dispatched. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

Muse said parents must make sure their children have lights on their costumes while they are trick-or-treating next Halloween. They also should be careful walking on crosswalks at intersections, which is where these accidents occurred on Thursday.

Tacoma was met with rainy conditions on Thursday night, which could have affected driving conditions. Muse said that drivers must be careful driving in the rain at night in order to avoid any mishaps.
