POCATELLO -- The Idaho chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators, in partnership with the Pocatello Fire Department, is hosting a week-long training event from Monday through Nov. 8 in Pocatello. This year's conference will take place at the River Park Complex. This training will draw investigators from across Idaho and neighboring states.
In preparation for the training, the Pocatello Fire Department will conduct controlled burns on temporary structures at the River Park Complex Sunday.
The training will include two different tracks:
-- Fundamentals of fire investigation: Designed for new investigators, this 40-hour course covers foundational fire investigation techniques. The curriculum includes hands-on experience with burn cells, allowing participants to practice origin and cause determination.
-- Advanced investigation topics: This track will cover a range of specialized topics, including wrongful conviction cases reviewed by the Innocence Project, fundamentals of physical evidence collection, interview and interrogation techniques, fire patterns analysis, evidence, photography, and documentation in fire investigations.
