Lebanese army says 3 soldiers killed in an Israeli strike on southern Lebanon
DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) -- The Lebanese army says three of its soldiers were killed in an Israeli strike on their vehicle in southern Lebanon. There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military on Sunday's strike. The army has largely kept the sidelines in the war between Israel and the Hezbollah militant group. The military is a respected institution in Lebanon but is not powerful enough to impose its will on Hezbollah or defend the country from an Israeli invasion.
The US is investigating an unauthorized release of classified documents on Israel's attack plans
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The United States is investigating an unauthorized release of classified documents that assess Israel's plans to attack Iran and note that Israel continues to move military assets in place to conduct a military strike in response to Iran's blistering ballistic missile attack on Oct. 1. Three U.S. officials told The Associated Press an investigation is ongoing, and it is still known if the documents were leaked or hacked. A fourth U.S. official said the documents appear to be legitimate. The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment over the leak of the two documents that first appeared online Friday on the messaging app Telegram. The information appeared entirely gathered through the use of satellite image analysis.
In Israeli footage of the last minutes of Hamas leader's life, some see a symbol of defiance
The world's final glimpse of Hamas' leader was through the lens of a hovering Israeli drone. It was rough and raw and showed him wounded and cornered and hunted down as he sat in a destroyed Palestinian home. For Hamas' supporters and many others in the Arab and Muslim world the grainy visuals offered proof that Yahya Sinwar was a martyr who died fighting to the last. Clips from the released drone footage went viral on social media. They were accompanied by quotes from Sinwar speeches in which he declared he would rather die on the battlefield.
Harris says Trump is 'cruel' as she spotlights abortion restrictions in Georgia during early voting
ATLANTA (AP) -- Vice President Kamala Harris says Republican former President Donald Trump was "cruel" for how he talked about the grieving family of a Georgia mother who died after waiting 20 hours for a hospital to treat her complications from an abortion pill. Harris on Saturday put combating restrictions on reproductive care at the center of her pitch to voters at a rally in Atlanta. Harris blamed Amber Thurman's death on Georgia's abortion restrictions that took effect after the Supreme Court in 2022, with three Trump-appointed justices, overturned Roe v. Wade. Harris said: "Donald Trump still refuses to take accountability, to take any accountability, for the pain and the suffering he has caused."
Trump kicks off a Pennsylvania rally by talking about Arnold Palmer's genitalia
LATROBE, Pa. (AP) -- His campaign suggested Donald Trump would begin previewing his campaign's closing arguments in a final push to win over voters with Election Day barely two weeks off. But the former president spent more time at a raucous rally Saturday night talking about Arnold Palmer. He even praised the late, legendary golfer's genitalia. Trump was campaigning in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, where Palmer was born in 1929. Trump spent 12 minutes saluting Palmer and noted, "When he took the showers with other pros, they came out of there. They said, 'Oh my God. That's unbelievable,'" Trump said with a laugh.

The collapse happened as crowds gathered on the island for a celebration of its tiny Gullah-Geechee community of Black slave descendants.

NYC officials envision turning Fifth Avenue into a grand boulevard
NEW YORK (AP) -- A major redesign has been proposed for Manhattan's famed luxury store row Fifth Avenue. New York City officials unveiled a plan this week to transform a central portion of the thoroughfare between Bryant Park and Central Park into a more pedestrian-centered boulevard. They propose doubling the size of sidewalks, reducing traffic lanes from five to three, as well as adding seating areas and hundreds of trees and planters, among other improvements. The vision is to emulate strolling and shopping boulevards like the Champs-Élysées in Paris. Officials said the project represents the avenue's first major redesign in its 200-year history.
Judges punishing Jan. 6 rioters say they fear more political violence as Election Day nears
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Judges punishing rioters for storming the U.S. Capitol nearly four years ago fear the nation faces more political violence on the cusp of the next presidential election. Some judges at Washington's federal courthouse frequently express those concerns during sentencing hearings for the hundreds of Capitol riot cases. U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton said during a recent hearing that he prays Americans accept the outcome of next month's election. But the veteran judge worries that former President Donald Trump and his allies are spreading the same sort of baseless conspiracy theories that fueled a mob's Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
