The Vancouver Canucks will have to wait to return to full strength.
Coach Rick Tocchet told reporters on Wednesday that Derek Forbort is week-to-week with an undisclosed injury after he left Monday's practice prematurely. Forbort recently returned from a leave of absence after the death of his father, Keith Forbort, in October.
The former Boston Bruins defenseman played in his 500th NHL game on Nov. 2 against the San Jose Sharks. It was just Forbort's fourth game of the season. He logged 15:18 of ice time.
The Canucks signed Forbort to a one-year deal this offseason after he spent three seasons with the Bruins. Injuries limited him to just 35 games last year, and it was thought his season was done after he underwent surgeries in March. But Forbort returned for the playoffs after he aggressively rehabbed.
The extent of Forbort's injury is unknown, and it's unclear whether he'll be in Vancouver's lineup when the Canucks play the Bruins on Nov. 26. It will mark the first time Forbort, as well as Jake DeBrusk and Danton Heinen will take on their former team.
