LANDOVER, MD - Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has played nearly every snap this season, a key factor in the team having a top-five offense. However, the Eagles now face the possibility of being without him for an extended period after he was injured during Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders.
With 9:55 remaining in the first quarter and the Eagles driving deeper into Commanders territory, Hurts ran a quarterback draw up the middle for a 13-yard gain. As he was being tackled, Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu hit Hurts in the head area as Hurts was going to the ground. Hurts initially got up and joined the huddle, but the league's independent neurologist called for further evaluation in the blue medical tent.

After being checked, Hurts took his helmet and went to the sideline, appearing ready to re-enter the game. However, he was not cleared to return. Hurts repeatedly attempted to return to the field, but trainers stopped him, and he eventually jogged to the locker room.
With Hurts sidelined, backup Kenny Pickett entered the game and looked sharp, completing all three of his passes for 20 yards, including a 4-yard touchdown to wide receiver A.J. Brown extending the Eagles lead to 14-0.
However, on the next possession Pickett was on the field for, he stared down Brown and Luvu intercepted his pass, leading to Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels throwing a 6-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jamison Crowder, cutting the Eagles lead to seven. If Hurts is unable to return, the Eagles will need Pickett to avoid turnovers and effectively manage the offense, especially with a lead and the team trying to clinch the NFC East title.
