Afterwards, my iCloud backup wouldn't complete, and instead just kept increasing the estimated time remaining, while slowly consuming all the space on internal storage (as "system data" in the storage graph). Which wasn't great. ... If you haven't updated to iPadOS 18 on your M4 iPad Pro, you should (and will have to) wait a bit -- and NOT do the 17.7 update beforehand.
