The Philadelphia Eagles find themselves in a pinch in the quarterback room heading into Week 17 and a visit from the Dallas Cowboys. ... so they have added a body.
Starter Jalen Hurts is in the concussion protocol. His status for Sunday's contest against the Cowboys remains in doubt Backup Kenny Pickett is dealing with an injury of his own as he suffered a rib injury during the Eagles' 36-33 loss to the Commanders last Sunday. So his status is also up in the air.
With both the starter and immediate backup dealing with injuries, the Eagles enter Thursday having only one healthy quarterback on the roster: preseason fan favorite Tanner McKee.
But suddenly there is another in Ian Book, who worked out with the Eagles on Christmas Day and is now signing with the team, starting on the practice squad.
And there's a chance that he could be forced onto the roster this weekend.
McKee, a 2023 sixth-round pick, hasn't seen action in an NFL game in his two-year career, but he has developed into a nice quarterback project the Eagles have seen excel in the preseason.
During the past three preseason contests, McKee completed 34 of 56 passes for 294 yards and an interception with the third-team offense. He was easily the best quarterback not named Hurts on the team during the preseason and in training camp.

Book, 26, Book, 26, was with the Eagles back in 2022. He has not been employed with a team since the Chiefs waived him in August.
A fourth-round pick in 2021, Book started one game for the Saints as a rookie. He completed 12 of 20 passes for 135 yards with two interceptions in that outing.
If Pickett and Hurts can't go, "emergency" QB McKee will have to run the offense against a Dallas team using Cooper Rush at QB in place of the injured Dak Prescott. And Book might have to be assigned a game-day uniform.
