South Carolina football star freshman edge rusher Dylan Stewart limped off the field with just 33 seconds until halftime against Vanderbilt on Saturday.
Stewart, one of the most impactful players on the defense for the Gamecocks (5-3, 3-3 SEC), seemed to have sustained a leg, ankle or foot injury after a play on third down for the Commodores (6-3, 3-2 SEC). Quarterback Diego Pavia escaped a swarm of South Carolina defenders, and hurdled a defender to get the first down on the play that Stewart was injured.
Coming out of halftime, Stewart was warming up on the exercise bike on the sidelines. On the first defensive play of the half with 13:21 in the third quarter, Stewart was back in the game.
Who is Dylan Stewart's backup on South Carolina's depth chart?
Stewart has been the star with Kyle Kennard this season. The backups who traveled with the team to Nashville include Bryan Thomas Jr, Desmond Umeozulu, Jatius Geer, and Gilber Edmond.
Dylan Stewart stats
Stewart has 16 tackles, 13 of them solo, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery this season.
