Tuesday, Nov. 5, our nation will decide its 47th president along with many other national, state and local races. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Ballots
Anderson County Election Administrator Casey Brown reminds voters who have not voted since 2020 that the county no longer uses hand-marked ballots.
"You will now mark your ballot on an electronic marking device," Brown said. "The unit is very simple to utilize. We consider it a big electronic pencil. If you are not familiar with this device, please visit our website for an instruction video at www.co.anderson.tx.us, or visit the election office for assistance."
She also reminds voters that ballots can be previewed at the election office, as well as on the county website prior to voting. She noted the elections office is not able to provide any information for or against any measure or candidate on the ballot.
"Please be familiar with the ballot, as you will experience long waiting times," Brown said. "Please be patient and courteous of other voters while waiting in line. We will have clerks available to assist you if needed."
Anderson County hosting joint elections
According to Brown, the county is conducting a joint election with Slocum and LaPoyner Independent School Districts for this election. School district voters will vote at their regular precinct polling places.
Qualified voters can vote
All qualified voters are eligible to vote during the early voting period. The deadline to register to vote in this election was Oct. 4.
If you would like to confirm whether you are registered or not, log onto the Texas Secretary of State website at www.sos.state.tx.us/.
You'll need one of the three combinations of information to check your status: - your Texas driver's license number and date of birth, - your first and last name, date of birth and what county you reside in, - or your date of birth and Voter Unique Identifier, which appears on your voter registration certificate.
Required identification
Brown asks that voters have their required photo ID ready and available to present before checking in. You must bring one of seven approved forms of photo identification along with your voter certificate, if available. The seven approved forms of photo ID include: - TX election ID certificate - TX drivers license - TX personal ID card - TX handgun license - U.S. citizenship certificate with photo ID - U.S. military ID card - U.S. passport
Anyone unable to obtain one of the approved forms of identification may still vote by filling out a Reasonable Impediment Declaration and showing a copy or original of one of the following approved alternative IDs. These include a certified domestic birth certificate or court admissible birth document, current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck and government document with your name and an address, including your voter registration certificate.
Electioneering
Brown reminds all voters that electioneering is not allowed within the 100-feet distance marker of the polling place.
"Please remove all candidate literature, including hats, pens, t-shirts, scarfs, etc., before entering the polling place," Brown said. "We are required by law to ask voters to remove any campaign literature before casting their vote. Voters may bring written notes or sample ballots to cast votes."
