The IU Kokomo volleyball team swept Bresica 25-19, 25-18, 25-14 Friday in River States Conference action at the IUK Student Activities and Events Center.

Mya Grigsby floored nine kills for the Cougars, and Maggie Connell and Lexi Broyles each had eight. Kaley Lyons had 16 assists, Allison Richman 12 and Ellie Garland six. Lyons and Grigsby each served five aces. Cummings had four blocks. Garland led the defense with 13 digs and Lyons had nine.

The Cougars (26-4) improved to 13-0 in the RSC. The Cougars host Oakland City today at noon in their last home match of the regular season.

IUK men's hoops drops opener

UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. -- The IU Kokomo men's basketball team fell 87-64 to William Penn Friday night in the opening round of the Governors State Classic. It was IUK's opening game of the season.

Max Newman scored 13 points for IUK, Drake Moore 12, Mason Lewis 11 and Dell DeMyers 10. Newman grabbed eight boards.

The Cougars face host school Governors State today at 4 p.m.

Illinois women win exhibition

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Illinois women's basketball team beat Lewis 80-53 Friday night in an exhibition game at Illinois with former Northwestern High School star Kendall Bostic leading the way.

Bostic scored a game-high 22 points on 7-of-9 shooting for Illinois, including a perfect 2 of 2 from 3-point land. She grabbed eight rebounds, had an assist and three blocks while playing 28 minutes.

Gretchen Dolan added 16 points and Adalia McKenzie 13 for the Illini.

Next up for Illinois is a season-opening home game against No. 19 Florida State at 6 p.m. Thursday.
