The New York Jets (2-5) continue their regular season journey with a matchup in at Gillette Stadium against the New England Patriots (1-5).
All week, topics and storylines have been discussed ahead of this battle between two AFC East foes. In the end, regardless of what is said by players, coaches, media outlets and fans, it always comes down to what unfolds on the field in the NFL.
And once the battle arrives, there will be a few particular things to keep in mind to look out for.
With that, here are five things to watch for during the Jets' Week 8 matchup with the Patriots:
The word "energy" has been ringing loudly at 1 Jets Drive this past week. It came to light when quarterback Aaron Rodgers said he thought the team's energy was before and during their recent loss to the Steelers. Then wide receiver Davante Adams did as well and he went on to give a team speech Adams thought it was so bad.
So where does that leave us now? Let's see some energy in New England.
Adams' first game in the green and white after being traded in Pittsburgh only saw him catch three passes for 30 yards. Can his production and impact improve in his second outing with the Jets?
Speaking of a debut with the Jets, Haason Reddick will be making his against the Pats. What can he bring to the team?
Rookie quarterback Drake Maye played in some mop-up duty snaps against the Jets earlier this season. New York topped New England that day to the tune of a 24-3 final. Now Maye is starting.
After a poor second half against the Steelers, facing a young quarterback could be a strong "get-right game" for the Jets defense. The secondary does have some injuries... but New York should still be able to handle Maybe if they are as good of a group as they claim to be.
Rodgers had two very costly turnovers against the Steelers. Giveaways are always bad so he has to cut them down, but Rodgers really can't throw such untimely ones like that again.
Recent defeats New York sustained were not against the Patriots. Despite how poorly the Jets have played, New England is still under them in the AFC East standings. They're a much lower caliber level of a team.
All that considered, that adds to the pressure. If the Jets lose to such a team like the 2024 Pats? That's it. The season is over. The locker room can't let that distract them.
