The Kansas City Chiefs will embark on one of the toughest assignments in football when they travel to Levi's Stadium to face the San Francisco 49ers.
Fresh off a bye week, Patrick Mahomes and Co. will be looking to maintain their undefeated start to 2024. However, it will be anything but easy. But there is a thread to pull that might give the Chiefs, despite being bitten by the injury bug, an advantage.
CBS Sports' John Breece thinks that the Chiefs could slay the 49ers due to their ability to win coming off a bye.
"The Chiefs don't have the best receiving weapons right now, but Mahomes has figured out how to use the ones he does have," Breech writes. "The 49ers secondary has already been diced up by Sam Darnold and Geno Smith this year, so I don't feel good about their chances going up against Mahomes. Also, let's not forget that the Chiefs will be coming off a bye and there is no one more unbeatable off a bye than Andy Reid. The Chiefs coach is 21-4 in the regular season coming off a bye. It's almost like the NFL wants the 49ers to lose this game."
Another thing to add to that mix is Mahomes has a 4-0 against the 49ers, including two Super Bowl wins.
So, while Kyle Shanahan's team is a juggernaut against others, when it comes to Kansas City, Andy Reid's unit is the very definition of kryptonite.

But can the Chiefs' banged-up offense manage to put up enough points against this 49ers defense? San Francisco has given up 350+ total yards in their last two games, so they do allow teams to move the football.
And if Mahomes is allowed to do that, his streak over the 49ers will continue, and so will the Chiefs' impressive stat of winning off a bye week.
