Meet Huldah Momanyi, the Kenyan-born politician vying for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives for Minnesota - Face2Face Africa

Huldah Momanyi, a Kenya-born politician, is poised to make history if elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, potentially becoming the first Kenyan to achieve this milestone.

Momanyi is running for the Minnesota Senate District 38A seat, highlighting the growing involvement of African immigrants in American politics -- a significant achievement worth celebrating.

Born in the small village of Magombo in Kenya's Nyamira County, her family relocated to the United States in the mid-1990s after her father migrated in the 1980s.

After nearly a decade in the U.S., Momanyi has emerged as a formidable candidate in the upcoming November elections. Running on the Democratic Party ticket, she secured victory in the primary with 51.28% of the vote, defeating competitor Wynfred Russell.

According to the Minnesota Secretary of State's Office, Momanyi garnered 1,005 votes, while Russell received 955, underscoring her appeal in what is traditionally a Democratic stronghold.

Her campaign has employed a data-driven strategy. Guided by Data Director Mike Vogel and analyst Ryan Jancik, her team meticulously analyzed voter profiles and engaged with over 10,000 registered voters across the district. This approach, combined with grassroots canvassing and phone banks, was instrumental in her primary success.

As she shifts focus to the general election, Momanyi plans to address issues such as safety, equitable housing, and accessible healthcare. Her commitment to representing Minnesota's most diverse district is reflected in her plans to advocate for legislation that prioritizes the well-being of all constituents, regardless of background or socioeconomic status.

Momanyi's policy approach is pragmatic, emphasizing the connection between public safety and economic prosperity. "When we take care of public safety, businesses thrive, and families feel secure," she stated.

As a mother of two, Momanyi understands the challenges working families face, particularly in securing affordable childcare. With firsthand experience, she is determined to create supportive environments for families balancing work and home life.

Her candidacy goes beyond her individual campaign, reflecting a broader trend in U.S. politics where immigrant voices increasingly shape discussions on diversity and representation.
