Colin Cowherd Taking Heat For His NFL Comparison For Riley Leonard

This season has been a tale of two games for Notre Dame. They looked like national championship contenders in Week 1, taking down Texas A&M on the road at Kyle Field.

Week 2 saw the Fighting Irish take a huge loss at home to Northern Illinois, in a game where they failed to generate points on offense.

Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard hasn't looked great in either game, but that didn't stop FOX sports commentator Colin Cowherd from comparing him to one NFL star on Saturday.

"Call me crazy -- I see some Josh Allen in Riley Leonard. Tall and lean but strong. Moves VERY well. Hit/miss accuracy for now. Just needs development," Cowherd said, near the start of Notre Dame's game against Purdue.

Fans on social media clearly disagreed with Cowherd's take on Leonard.

"'Call me crazy' If you insist," said one fan.

"No Colin. They are nothing alike. Riley Leonard can't complete passes 5+ yards down the field," said another fan.

"He's Daniel Jones. Maybe. He's just another Duke quarterback who happens to be wearing a gold helmet this year," one fan added.

"this has been said for 4 years now. it ain't happenin," said one Notre Dame fan, clearly frustrated with their new quarterback.

"'Needs development' does a lot of heavy lifting here," one fan added.

"This is one of [the] craziest things I ever seen," said one fan who couldn't believe the comparison from Cowherd.

"Gotta be honest, didn't have that comp in my notepad," said another fan.

Leonard has a chance to prove the doubters wrong - and Cowherd right - with a big performance against Purdue on Saturday. We'll see if he can live up to the challenge in the team's third game of the season.
