Mari Watanabe, a Democrat from the suburbs of Beaverton, is the newest member of Oregon's House of Representatives.
Watanabe was appointed by Multnomah and Washington County commissioners Wednesday evening to represent House District 34, which includes Bethany, where she lives, as well as parts of Beaverton. The former representative for that district, Lisa Reynolds, was appointed to the Senate to fill a vacancy left by newly elected state Treasurer Elizabeth Steiner.
