The BBQ master who helped create the once beloved Hanover BBQ joint, 3 Hogs BBQ, passed away suddenly in December, according to his obituary.
Allen David Kuhn, 40, of Hanover, died unexpectedly due to health complications on Dec. 12, 2024, according to his obituary.
Kuhn was known for being the co-founder of the Hanover area's beloved 3 Hogs BBQ in August of 2014, alongside former business partner Matthew Albright. The business first opened on Forney Avenue in Hanover Borough, and was known, unsurprisingly, for its barbeque offerings.
While it once had locations in Hanover, Spring Grove, and York, 3 Hogs BBQ closed its physical locations in April of 2023, but had remained running a food truck for some time.
The business was also keen on community events, such as a PWA Wrestling tournament and an eating contest held at the Hanover location which benefited Olivia's House. Kuhn also had an avid participation in the annual Hanover Chili Cook-off and food contests, with his award-winning chili and salsa remembered in Kuhn's obituary.
A GoFundMe for the family of Kuhn was set up, and by the evening of Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, had already surpassed its goal of $5,000 to support his family. The GoFundMe can be accessed at www.tinyurl.com/allenkuhngofund.
"He touched countless lives with his big heart, amazing food, and playful spirit," shared Jennifer Monaco in the description for the GoFundMe.
Kuhn was a 2003 graduate of South Western High School in Penn Township, and graduated from the York Technical Institute with a degree in culinary arts and restaurant management, according to his obituary.
A celebration of life for Kuhn was held on Dec. 19, 2024. In his obituary, family asked for donations to be made in Kuhn's name to St. David's UCC, or to the York County SPCA.
