Imagineering Files Permit for New 'The Little Mermaid - A Musical Adventure' Marquee at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a permit for a new marquee for the upcoming "The Little Mermaid - A Musical Adventure" show, which was recently postponed to 2025.

The "general description of improvement" for the permit is to "install signage" at 755 Stage Ln., Bay Lake, FL; this is the location of a service road just behind the former "Voyage of the Little Mermaid" theater. An expiration date for the permit was not listed.

The permit has been assigned to Design Communications Ltd., a fabrication company that specializes in custom signage. Walt Disney Imagineering has contracted Design Communications Ltd. on a number of projects, dating all the way back to at least 2014.

Earlier this week on October 14, Walt Disney World announced that the new show would be postponed to summer 2025, after originally being planned to open sometime this year.

It was also reported that work on the theater's exterior would start in the coming weeks. It appears that this work -- including a new marquee -- will begin soon. The current signage features 3D figures of Ariel, Sebastian, and Flounder, with flats of Ursula and King Triton. The background of the marquee is zip-tied to framework behind it.

The above photo was taken earlier this month. As you can see, the backdrop has loosened and become washed out over time, and the billboard to the left of the theater entrance is all but sun-bleached from remaining uncovered in the Florida sun.

"The Little Mermaid - A Musical Adventure" will feature all the songs that were previously in "Voyage of the Little Mermaid," as well as "Kiss the Girl" and "Daughters of Triton." The show will feature all-new puppets, as well as live and digital motion-captured characters. Walt Disney World posted casting calls for character performers and puppeteers for the show earlier this year.

Are you excited to see the new show when it opens next summer? What do you think the updated marquee will look like? Share your thoughts with us in the comments and on social media.
