Glasgow City go top after putting 13 past unlucky Dundee United

Glasgow City moved top of the SWPL after recording the biggest scoreline of the season so far against cursed Dundee United.

The hosts saw goalkeeper Beth Rennie sent off after just two minutes for handling outside the area in a clash which floored City's Brenna Lovera. Substitute keeper Beth Mowatt had barely time to take her position before Lisa Evans powered home the resultant free kick.

Playing against a defence comprised of 17-year-olds, and with the winds at their backs, Glasgow capitalised on the advantages to carve through their opponents with grim regularity - racking up a 7-0 lead at half time as Lovera claimed a brace while Natalia Wrobel, Aleigh Gambone, Emily Whelan and Sofia Maata found the net.

Conditions continued to deteriorate at Foundation Park as the second half progressed. United showed signs of resistance, keeping the visitors at bay for more than 20 minutes before Whelan made it eight, curling home her shot past a stretching Mowatt.

Within three minutes Katie Lockwood had her first goal in City colours, before Whelan grabbed the tenth to complete her hat-trick.

A minute later Lisa Forrest made it 11, dancing through the United defence, before Koslova made it 12 with 15 minutes remaining, and wrapped up the goalscoring by heading home from point-blank range.
