LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Perryton-native Jeremy Campbell is no stranger to the international stage.

Thursday evening at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, Campbell entered the Men's Discus F64 final with four Paralympic titles already there on his resume.

His opening throw of 60.46 meters was all he needed in order to defend his Tokyo Paralympic title- and add a fifth gold medal to his collection.

From the first round on, the former Perryton Ranger took the lead and never looked back.

No competitor was able to eclipse his winning throw. The second-best toss also happened in the opening round.

Silver medalist Akeem Stewart of Trinidad & Tobago was only .8 meters behind but was unable to close the gap.

2016 gold medalist David Blair of Eagle Mountain, Utah, earned bronze with a fifth-round throw of 57.76m.

Even after Campbell had clinched the win by the start of the sixth-and-final round, his final toss of 61.14m was good enough to set a new Paralympic record. His other Paralympic discus golds ware earned in Beijing 2008, London 2012, and Tokyo 2020.

In 2008, he also finished first in the F44 Pentathlon. The F64 classification is for athletes with missing limbs.

Campbell was born without a right fibula, but was able to grow up and enjoy a successful sports career at Perryton High School. There, he became the school's point guard and starting quarterback.

Soon after, he would take his talents far beyond the Texas Panhandle.
