Pinkerton 3, Windham 2
The Astros scored all three of their goals in the second half to come away with a NH Division I victory.
Ethan Fonseca, TJ Paquin and Phoenix Beaulieu scored the goals, while, Ethan Bellows, Andrew Perfetto and Jack Welch had the respective assists.
Goalie Rolston Ladd made four saves.
"Today was a great comeback performance by the Astros. We had numerous scoring opportunities early on but couldn't capitalize on them," said Pinkerton head coach Kerry Bowles. "We found ourselves in several holes (1-0 and 2-1) but found a way to get the job done. I'm really proud of the way we responded in multiple ways".
Besides the goal scorers, playing well included junior Hayden Marshall, freshman Ryan Oliviera and senior captains Bellows and Braeden Wheeler.
For Windham, Alejandro Giraldo and John Durkin scored the goals, while, Cole Partington picked up an assist. Goalie Matt Mosely made seven saves.
St. John's Shrewsbury 3, Central Catholic 1
Cole Loisel scored the lone goal on a set-up from Evan D'Agata but that wasn't enough for the Raiders in the non-league contest. Tristan White made eight saves in net.
Exeter 2, Salem 1
After a scoreless first half, Exeter opened up the scoring within the first five minutes of the second half. Salem responded nicely with a goal from Kingston Frietas in the 50', his second of the season. With 15 minutes to go Exeter scored the game winner.
Elias Mercedes again played strong in net with ten saves keeping the Blue Devils in the game. Other key contributors were defensemen Liam Hevehan, Jack Schaefer, Boston Strob and Derek Campbell. Levi Leite and Mateus Pinto played well up top creating chances to score.
Marblehead 2, Andover 0
From Monday, the Golden Warriors couldn't get anything going offensively. Joe Cardillo made 12 saves in the net.
Girls Soccer
Beverly 1, North Andover 0
In the 48' Beverly scored the lone goal to come away with the non-league season opener victory. North Andover goalie Emma Damour made seven saves. The Scarlet Knights also received solid midfield play from senior captain Sydney Rogers and junior Kate Fry.
Pinkerton 4, Windham 0
Courtney Russell found the net twice, while, Bella Sippel and Audrey Earehart added one each to help the Astros prevail. Call Lockwood added two assists and Kayla Silverado had one, while, goalie Sydney Mlynarski made three saves to post the shut out.
Timberlane 4, Alvirne 1
The defending NH Division I state champions jumped out to a three-goal halftime lead which was more than enough for the win. Four different players found the back of the net including Lulu Trasatti, Danielle Bates, Alli Harb and Rylee Donahue. Brooke Langlois and Harb had one assist each. Goalie Bella Johnson made four saves for the win.
Plymouth 1, Pelham 0
Bella Furtado made eight saves in net for Pelham (0-2), and playing well in front of her included Lexy Brodeur, Khloe Lotorneau, and Jessie Phillips.
Exeter 5, Salem 0
Salem couldn't get anything going against a powerful Exeter team.
Weymouth 2, Central Catholic 0
Goalie Gianna DeMedeiros made five saves as Central fell short in a non-league game.
Whittier Tech 1, Lowell Catholic 0
Kamryn Eaton scored for Whittier in the second half leading the team to a CAC victory. Cali Moore had four saves to earn the shut out.
Golf
Windham 205, Bishop Guertin 215, Hanover 217
Windham took both matches in its season opener. Ethan Peluso was the top medalist with a 39.
Central Catholic 295, St. Mary's 317
Central improves to 2-0 with a non-league match played at the Atkinson Country Club. Harry Garland, Alex Barnard and Jake Morowski all finished with a five-over par, 41 to lead the way for the Raiders.
Volleyball
Shawsheen Tech 3, Greater Lawrence 0
The Reggies were swept in their season opener by a strong Rams team with scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-15. Highlights for Greater Lawrence included seven service points and six assists from Asmeily Anziani, seven digs and two service points from Ella DiMauro-Lozowski, and four kills from Franchesca Tavarez.
Field Hockey
Andover 6, Danvers 0
The defending Division 1 state finalist scored five first half goals before cruising the rest of the way. Caroline Samaras and Maggie O'Handley had two goals each, while, Mia Giaimo and Shannon Paul had one each. Bella DiFiore had a big game with four assists, and both Scarlet Glass and Chloe Broderick had one each.
