The Washington Huskies defensive coordinator will join Bill Belichick's staff at UNC, 247 Sports'' Matt Zenitz reported on Sunday morning. He'll have the same role in North Carolina as he did in Washington. Steve is expected to join his dad after the Huskies' bowl game against Louisville on Dec. 31.
This comes days after linebacker Khmori House committed to the Tar Heels after one season with the Huskies.
There was plenty of speculation about whether the younger Belichick would end up in Chapel Hill after Bill signed a five-year deal with the school. ESPN's Pete Thamel and Chris Low reported during negotiations between UNC and Bill that the two sides were still working out issues, including "the potential role for his son."
Steve joined the Huskies' staff as their defensive coordinator after he spent 12 seasons with Bill on the New England Patriots. He left the organization after the Patriots and the 72-year-old parted ways after over two decades of dominance in the NFL that included six Super Bowl titles.
In his lone season with Washington, Steve helped the Huskies have a strong defense that allowed 166.8 yards per game and 13 touchdowns on the year.
