Kerr Sounds Off on Tatum Controversy Ahead of Warriors, Celtics Game

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has taken more than a little heat for his tenure leading Team USA Basketball, despite winning a gold medal with the group at the Paris Summer Olympics in August.

The majority of the criticism of Kerr has come from Boston Celtics fans upset with how he utilized -- or more accurately didn't utilize -- star forward Jayson Tatum. Tatum missed multiple full games as a healthy scratch simply because there was no space for him in Kerr's rotation.

Reporters asked Kerr about the controversy ahead of the Warriors' matchup with the Celtics at TD Garden on Wednesday night, Nov. 6.

"Steve Kerr says, when it comes to the noise surrounding Jayson Tatum sitting with Team USA, 'We can't control the story,'" ESPN's Tim Bontemps reported on X. "Said he didn't enjoy having to leave Tatum and Joel Embiid out for different games but that the goal of winning gold was achieved [and] that was the real story."

Kerr also joked about how he imagines he will be received in Boston Wednesday night.

"I'm sure a lot of Celtics fans will cheer me for being part of Team USA and winning us a gold medal," Kerr said, per Bontemps.

The matchup Wednesday night pits the Celtics (7-1), who are in second place in the Eastern Conference, against the surprise Warriors (6-1), who are tied for second place in a highly competitive Western Conference.
