CLEMSON - T.J. Moore continues to show tremendous signs of growth.
The freshman wideout has now started multiple games, with his first coming against Stanford last month and his most recent coming on Saturday in No. 10 Clemson's 48-31 win over Virginia on Saturday.
The progress the former 5-star has made is undeniable. The freshman tied a career-high with four catches in the victory, and his 78 receiving yards were a new career-best. He also caught his third touchdown pass of the season and his 16.8 yards per catch are second on the team.
In that first start against the Cardinal, Swinney noted that his wideout made some mistakes that were typical of a freshman, but since then the head coach has been pleased with Moore's mindset and work ethic, which has led to more production.
"Just steady since that first game, or I guess that was his first start," Swinney said after the win over the Cavaliers. "He didn't really play well in that game as far as the little things we need him to do. But he has been really business-like. Really steady. Made some big plays today."
The lone blemish Moore had on Saturday was a fumble late in the contest that was recovered by teammate Harris Sewell.
"He's a really good player, but as I told him on the sideline, he better use some of that NIL money and go buy Harris some dinner," Swinney added. "Because Harris Sewell saved him on that fumble."
As good as Moore has been through the Tigers 6-1 start to the season, Swinney insists that the freshman is really just starting to scratch the surface of his potential and he also maintains that receivers coach Tyler Grisham deserves a lot of the credit for the work he's done with Moore.
"It's pretty easy to see," Swinney said. "He is a special player. He attacks the ball, he runs through the ball. He is just sticky and very smooth. He is just going to keep getting better. Grish has done a really good job with him as far as what we are asking him to do week in and week out. His confidence is really growing. He's got a bright, bright future."
