Goalkeeper Yann Sommer says that he "doesn't care" whether Inter Milan are the best team in Serie A or not.
The Nerazzurri goalkeeper spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset after yesterday's draw with Napoli, via FCInterNews. He stressed that the results are all that matters.
Inter currently find themselves smack dab in the middle of a pack of six teams at the top of the Serie A table.
Napoli lead the way, on 26 points. Just behind them, all of Inter, Atalanta, Fiorentina, and Lazio have 25 points.
And one point behind that quartet are Juventus.
Therefore, at the moment, there appears to be no clear leader in the title race. It is well and truly up for grabs as things stand.
For teams like Fiorentina and Lazio, that represents something very positive.
But for Inter, it is disappointing. The Nerazzurri will feel that they have had chances to take control in the title race and give themselves an advantage of at least a couple points.
But instead, Inter find themselves caught in a frenetic title race.
Inter won the Serie A title last season. They did so in emphatic fashion, with a gap of nineteen points separating them from second spot in the table.
Therefore, it is inevitable that there would be a fair bit of pressure on the Nerazzurri this time around.
But yesterday's draw with Napoli was yet another opportunity to really assert themselves as the team to beat that Inter have passed up.
After the match, Sommer said that "I don't care if we're the best team in the league."
"We don't care if there are a lot of other teams around us," he continued.
"We'll see what happens in the end."
Sommer stressed that "It's a long season, there are a lot of matches."
"For us it's just important that we keep a lot of focus in every match. Then we'll see what happens."
