Obscure Mel Gibson 2024 True Crime Thriller Coming To Free Streaming

Boneyard -- a 2024 true crime thriller starring Mel Gibson and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson that was released in only a few theaters worldwide -- will soon be free to stream online.

Directed by Asif Akbar and also starring Brian Van Holt, Boneyard was officially released on July 5. The official synopsis for the film reads, "When the skeletal remains of eleven women and girls are discovered in the New Mexico desert, an extensive investigation is launched.

"Inspired by true crime stories, this chilling crime-thriller follows Detective Ortega (Van Holt), Police Chief Carter (Jackson) and Agent Petrovick (Gibson) in a multi-agency effort to identify and apprehend the killer. As each of their agendas and methods clash, a tangled web of intrigue casts suspicion in all directions."

Boneyard also stars Weston Cage, the son of film icon Nicolas Cage.

Tubi has announced that Boneyard will be free to stream on the platform on Tuesday, November 12. Tubi, of course, is an ad-based free streaming service.

Prior to its limited theatrical release in the U.S., Boneyard debuted on digital streaming via premium video on demand on such platforms as Prime Video, VUDU and Apple TV.

The film is currently listed on Prime Video for $12.99 to purchase on the platforms for $4.99 to rent for a 48-hour period, or $14.99 to purchase and $5.99 to rent on AppleTV and VUDU.

While Boneyard debuted in theaters domestically on July 5, no box office information is available for the film. Per The Numbers, the film earned $208,830 in a limited international release later in the summer.

Variety's Dennis Harvey was among the RT critics who gave Boneyard a "rotten" rating, writing, "This trashy trawl through a fictionalized version of the 'West Mesa Murders' is the kind of dubiously moralizing exploitation exercise that makes Sound of Freedom look like a noble class act by comparison."

On the flip side, Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times gave Boneyard a "fresh" review, writing, "This is a B-movie through and through, but thanks in large part to a deep cast of familiar faces and reliable character actors, it's a solid crime thriller that respects the true-life blueprint of the story."

RT users gave Boneyard a 35% "rotten" Audience Score based on 100-plus reviews.

Rated R, Boneyard, starring Mel Gibson and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, is coming to free streaming on Tubi on November 12 and is currently available to rent or purchase on PVOD.
