DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) -- A second pizza delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint in Decatur last week.
The robbery on Oct. 31 happened just days after a pizza delivery driver was robbed by three teenagers on Oct. 29. WCIA reported that due to a lack of bed space in juvenile detention centers, the teens were released to their parents with plans to have them in court soon.
Decatur Police Department Sergeant Brandon Rolfs said the Thursday robbery occurred around the 1100 block of North Jordan Street around 10:45 p.m.
Rolfs said the driver received the order and walked up to the house that he believed to be the correct address. While on the porch, two male suspects approached him from behind with guns in their hands and demanded the pizza driver give them his money. A third male suspect was with them, but Rolfs said the Decatur Police could not confirm if he was armed.
After robbing the pizza driver, the three suspects fled in his car.
The Decatur Police Department is actively investigating the robbery. While investigating, they discovered that the address the driver had been given was to a vacant home.
Rolfs said the two robberies were very similar in nature.
And, that this is a problem that's existed for some time. He said that ever since the juvenile detention center in Sangamon County, the largest in Central Illinois, closed down, there isn't always enough space or beds to fit everyone.
He encouraged community members to call their local and state officials and ask for more funding and support for juvenile detention center.
Rolfs said that anyone with information about this robbery to contact the Decatur Police Department or call Crime Stoppers at 217-423-8477.
