Baxter County Sheriff's Office warns public about scam

BAXTER COUNTY, Ark. -- The Baxter County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) is warning citizens about a phone scam that involves a caller impersonating law enforcement or a court official.

According to BCSO, the scam involves a caller claiming that you have failed to appear for a court date or something similar and must immediately send money somewhere to avoid arrest.

"The Sheriff's Office is not making any such calls. These calls are coming from scammers and are fraudulent in nature. Citizens are reminded to NOT send money anywhere, do not give or verify any personal identifying information including name, date of birth, address, social security number, driver license number, email address, or any other identifiers, and do not provide any credit card or bank information of any kind to the caller."

BCSO says the best course of action is just to hang up the phone and not interact with the scam caller at all.
