FORMER NBA point guard Gus Williams has died at age 71.
Williams played in the league for 12 years and was named to the All-Star Game twice.
He was nicknamed "Wizard" for his speed and skills on the court.
And he helped the Seattle Supersonics to their first and only NBA title in history.
Williams spent his first two seasons with the Golden State Warriors after being selected out of USC in 1975.
He then moved to the Supersonics in 1977 where he enjoyed the best years of his career.
Seattle won the NBA Championship in 1979, beating the Washington Bullets 4-1 in the Finals.
The point guard also had spells at the Bullets and Atlanta Hawks before his career ended in 1987.
He scored 14,093 points at an average of 17.1 per game in his 12-year career.
He suffered a stroke in February 2020 and needed assisted living afterwards.
Former teammate Wally Walker said, "His energy was always so positive and his sense of humor was always there.
"He got along with everybody. It was always fun with Gus, and a lot of laughs."
A fan wrote on X, "Way too soon. One of my favorite Sonics. RIP."
Another commented, "Oh man, I'm so sad to hear this, such a legend."
And a third posted, "Gus Williams, you're a legend. RIP."
