Via Oricon, Kaji shared his challenges in dubbing Attack on Titan: THE LAST ATTACK following his stage appearance on Nov. 9. "I think we probably did the dubbing for the second part in early summer last year, around June, but my child had a terrible cold, and I was hit hard by it. I wasn't in the best condition, but strangely enough, my voice came just on the day of the dubbing for Attack on Titan. I don't know if I had really given it my all, but the next day I couldn't get my voice out at all..."

Kaji continued, "But maybe the fact that I was feeling exhausted both physically and mentally was linked to Eren. I look back on it as a funny story, but I was able to put my heart into my performance while experiencing hell. I remember being really overwhelmed in so many ways while doing it." In the film, Eren chooses to take matters into his own hands, opting to eradicate most of the world's population to give his friends a chance at future survival.

One of the characters hardest hit by this was Mikasa, voiced by Yui Ishikawa. "In the end, I was able to record with Inoue [Marina, who plays Armin], and Kaji," Ishikawa said. "To be honest, before the recording, I didn't really know how I was going to feel, so I didn't know. But when we actually started recording, the sadness and loneliness of knowing that Eren was going to appear and that the work itself would end because of Mikasa's actions, all of it suddenly came over me..." Ishikawa's overwhelming emotions were visible in the Attack on Titan behind-the-scenes documentary, where she was seen crying. "While I was playing Mikasa," she continued, "I was also getting a little bit of my own feelings into it, and I was surprised at myself because I couldn't stop crying... It really made me realize how far I've come acting together with Mikasa."
