CHICAGO (WGN) -- After launching an investigation looking for a man that allegedly kidnapped a 10-year-old boy in Little Village, the Chicago Police Department has reversed course, saying the incident will now be classified as "unfounded."
According to CPD, after further investigation, an incident where a 10-year-old boy was initially said to have been kidnapped from the 3000 block of South Springfield before escaping around 6 p.m. Wednesday, was determined to not be "bona fide," aka it did not happen.
According to a CPD community alert sent overnight Wednesday, the boy was in his front yard when a man grabbed the victim and put his arm around his neck and mouth.
The man forced the boy to walk out of the yard and North on Springfield Avenue, then east on 30th Street to Millard Avenue.
According to police at the time, the boy was able to break free from the man when the offender tried to make a phone call, at which point he ran back to his home and was found by his father, who called the police.
