VACAVILLE -- It's been days of guns, meth, speeders and donuts for the Vacaville Police Department.
A traffic officer stopped a vehicle for speeding in a residential area that is the subject of regular complaints from nearby residents. The driver, Gabriel Uruena, 31, of Vallejo, did not have a license or insurance for the vehicle, police said. Neither did his passenger.
While searching the vehicle before it was towed, the officer discovered an open can of cold beer that appeared to have hastily been pushed under the driver seat, as well as a backpack with a loaded, unregistered handgun, police said.
Uruena was arrested and booked into the Solano County Jail on a plethora of charges on suspicion of possession of a loaded, concealed firearm while also in possession of a controlled substance, police said.
On another day, a traffic officer on Leisure Town Road, in another complaint area, saw a vehicle moving at a high rate of speed, 102 miles per hour.
The driver was issued a citation for the specific offense of exceeding 100 mph, which can carry a license suspension as well as a fine close to $1,000.
The same afternoon, a Vacaville Police lieutenant was waiting at a red light at the intersection of Elmira and Peabody roads around 1:30 p.m. when the driver of black Mustang decided to spin some donuts in the middle of the busy intersection.
The Mustang quickly took off under the freeway. The patrol car caught up to find an individual currently on parole for assault with a deadly weapon. The suspect was arrested on charges of reckless driving. The Mustang was towed and impounded for 30 days, police said.
