The City of Grand Prairie announced on social media on the evening of Sept. 3 a foaming agent was found in the city's water supply. It warned those north of I-20 to avoid using water for anything more than flushing.
About 60,000 people have been impacted, with affected areas shown in the map below.

Grand Prairie ISD closed schools accordingly. Kirby Creek Natatorium, Prairie Lakes Golf Course (including Crown's), Ruthe Jackson Center, Dalworth Recreation Center, Charley Taylor Recreation Center, Veterans Event Center are closed, as well as park restrooms and water fountains in the affected area.

Alongside homes, schools and parks and recreational facilities, dozens of restaurants and businesses are situated within the affected area.
While the Ikea store is outside the immediate area of restriction for Grand Prairie, out of an abundance of caution, the retailer has taken some steps to address the water issues, according to Janeli Castrejana, Ikea Grand Prairie local marketing manager.

That includes changes in its offerings at the Swedish restaurant and the bistro. The company has switched to selling pre-packaged foods at the eateries instead of the usual hot dogs or Swedish meatballs.
In addition, the bathrooms are operational, but it's offering sanitizers to mitigate the use of tap water. Ikea is less than a mile from the affected area, according to Patrick Conway, IKEA Grand Prairie market manager.

With some nearby schools closed amid the water restriction, Ikea has some heavier foot traffic as families head out for activities. A Kroger store located at 313 E. Pioneer Parkway in Grand Prairie is currently impacted.

"We've had to temporarily close our fresh production departments in that store," said John Votava, a spokesperson for the grocer, in an emailed statement. "We have seen an increase in bottled water sales in that area and at neighboring stores and have coordinated three shipments of bottled water today to help meet that demand in Grand Prairie and neighboring stores."
