Maple Leafs Get Encouraging Update on Max Pacioretty's Injury

The Toronto Maple Leafs have received positive news regarding Max Pacioretty's recent injury, one suffered during their 4-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.

NHL analyst Nick Alberga of The Leafs Nation reported on Sunday that the injury "isn't too bad," easing concerns for the Leafs and their fans.

"Hearing good news on the Max Pacioretty injury front," Alberga wrote on X. "Sounds like it's not too bad at all."

Pacioretty went down in the first period following a cross-check from Canadiens defenseman Mike Matheson, needing assistance from his teammates to leave the ice.

Given Pacioretty's track record with injuries, the concern was understandable among fans and analysts regarding a possible long-term issue impacting his season.

Former Leafs captain John Tavares voiced those concerns speaking after the game while waiting for an update on Pacioretty's status.

"You just hope the news is better than how he's feeling in the moment," Tavares said, per Leafs Latest. "It's never easy to see.

"We've obviously found some chemistry together and had some success early, so we're obviously going to miss him and what he brings to the table."

Head coach Craig Berube said that the team would evaluate Pacioretty further before deciding if he could play against Ottawa on Tuesday or join the team in Washington on Wednesday.

As Lance Hornby of the Toronto Sun put it, Berube "drew the curtain, unwilling to go beyond the generic 'lower body' description," leaving open all possibilities for Tuesday's lineup.

Despite Pacioretty's absence for most of Saturday's game, the Leafs got their third consecutive victory and moved up to a 9-5-2 record (20 points) through 16 games. The only team above Toronto in the Atlantic Division is the reigning champion Florida Panthers with 23 points in 15 games.
