What's Zeke Think About Cowboys' RB By Committee Plan?

Much of the Dallas Cowboys' offseason has been dominated by how the running back situation would fare when the regular season got underway.

The Cowboys curb-stomped the Cleveland Browns 33-17, with Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle, as expected, sharing the load.

Zeke totaled 40 yards and a touchdown from 10 carries, while Rico rushed for 26 yards on eight carries. Now, that's not too bad, and considering the second-half game script that saw Dallas ahead 27-3 at one stage, things went a little sideways as the Cowboys hit cruise control.

But still, Elliott liked how things shook out.

"I think it really well," Elliott said. "I think it will continue that same way, it probably got a little tough in that second half when we couldn't really get much going. I think probably [I] was on a like on the field [in] third quarter maybe like two or three plays, but that's just how the game went. I mean if we do what we need to do on offense and sustain drives, that'll help get both me and Rico in momentum."

In what will be similar to 2022, when Elliott and Tony Pollard shared the workload, the Cowboys will use a host of running backs in 2024, and that might even include Dalvin Cook.

In the first half against the Browns, Dallas was able to move the ball effectively both on the ground and in the run game. Of course, it's one game, and Zeke and Rico will be the freshest they will be all year, but there were positive signs.

Elliott's hurdle on the game's opening play was a sign that he's back and Dowdle showed some good burst on a couple of his runs.

We aren't getting too carried away given it is only one game, but there was promise in the Cowboys' run game. Now we will see if that can continue against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
