Historically, the Cincinnati Bengals have not made trades to acquire players before the NFL trade deadline. Or do much of anything at the NFL trade deadline, really.
Until this year, anyway.
With Zack Moss lost for the season and the season itself in danger of being lost despite an MVP-level year from Joe Burrow, the Bengals made a splash.
The day of the deadline, the Bengals sent a late-round draft pick to the Chicago Bears for running back Khalil Herbert.
While a low investment, it is a rarity for the Bengals. And it also nets them a player who will produce right away in the offense and, as a whole, is a win-now move.
To say fans were happy would be an understatement.
