The main difference between yesterday and today is that the high pressure will be spinning clockwise as it passes off the New England shore. This will allow for a minuscule warmup as we switch to a gradual southerly flow. You can see the change in the pattern more defined higher up in the atmosphere.
But the forecast generally remains the same: You can certainly expect a chill in the air this morning as you drop kids off at the bus stop or head into work. Commuting-hour temps will likely remain in the upper-50s across Boston and more so in the low-50s west of I-95.
Loads of sunshine and the shift to a southerly flow throughout the afternoon will help raise temperatures a few degrees -- the mid- to upper-70s are likely across Greater Boston with a better bet to reach 80 degrees the farther west you go.
It's a beautiful day to take a walk at lunch or after work -- enjoy the sunshine while you can because September accounts for the biggest loss of daylight across the entire year. Boston loses an average of 2 minutes and 49 seconds each day throughout the month -- both in the morning and evening. Sunsets are now before 7:15 p.m. with sunrise times about to eclipse the 6:15 a.m. mark.
The caveat for nice weather this time of year is that high pressure keeps pollen, dust, and mold floating away from the surface -- which will keep ragweed and those sensitive to dust and mold ailing as allergy levels remain medium to high.
Southern New England: Another gorgeous fall preview with sunny skies and mostly calm winds. A cool start with 6 to 8 a.m. temperatures in the low- to mid-50s, so a vest or light jacket might be needed. Temps will build to the mid-70s across south-central New England and a little warmer to the 80-degree mark across western Mass. and western Connecticut thanks to a southerly flow. Air will remain dry with dew points in the 50s.
Western Mass.: Lots of sunshine with sunrise temps in the 40s -- pretty chilly. A quick warmup expected, though with daily highs reaching the mid-70s across the Berkshires and closer to 80 within the Pioneer Valley. Dry air will certainly remain with relaxed winds.
Cape and Islands: Sunny skies with relaxed conditions as the high pressure moves directly overhead. Temperatures will reach the low- to mid-70s.
