Barcelona director Deco makes important decision ahead of January transfer window

With a little more than a week left before the January transfer window opens up, Barcelona faces a few key challenges.

The club's biggest task will be to register new signings Dani Olmo and Pau Torres, for which they must find fresh sources of revenue.

For the longest time, it appears Barcelona are set to rely on player sales in order to make space for Olmo and Torres. However, a recent report from SPORT suggests otherwise.

As per the report, it appears Barcelona sporting director Deco has made the important decision of not allowing any player sales in January.

The club believe selling any stars in the winter transfer window could present another challenge of replacing them, which will be impossible under the current economic scenario.

Therefore, Barcelona will not sell any new players in January, including the ones who are not a prominent part of Hansi Flick's first-team plans.

This decision could significantly impact two players, in particular: Eric Garcia and Ansu Fati.

Both players have been closely linked with a move away from Catalonia in recent weeks, with Garcia already being courted by his former loan club Girona.

Fati, meanwhile, has fallen out of favour under Hansi Flick and is not a part of the German's first-team plans anymore.

But with Barcelona opting not to sell any players in January, it won't be surprising to see both players remaining at Montjuic until the end of the season.

Of course, their extended stay does mean Barcelona must now find other sources of revenue, in their bid to register Olmo.

To that end, the club will look to utilise the sale of VIP seats at Spotify Camp Nou which is expected to bring in a minimum revenue of €200 million.
