There's a lot of chatter surrounding Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers currently, as the superstar forward is not ready for the start of the team's 2024-25 campaign due to persistent right knee inflammation he's been dealing with for months now.
Leonard missed most of the Clippers first-round playoff series against the Dallas Mavericks last season with this injury, and he ended up being unable to play in the 2024 Summer Olympics for Team USA as a result of this ailment too.
Now, Leonard and the Clippers are in the news for a new reason, as the team is the subject of a lawsuit from Randy Shelton, a former trainer with the team, who claims he was fired for complaining about unsafe medical treatments Leonard was subjected to. After news of the suit went public, the Clippers quickly disputed the allegations.
Injuries have played a big part in Leonard's tenure with the Clippers, as he missed the entire 2021-22 campaign after he suffered a partially torn ACL in the 2021 playoffs.
The road back to his prior form was certainly bumpy once he eventually returned to the court, but just when it seemed like he was finally fully healthy, this inflammation in his right knee flamed up that has held him off the court dating back to last season's playoffs.
Given all the chatter surrounding Leonard and his injuries currently, it's eye-opening to see this lawsuit get filed that suggests the team was using unsafe medical treatments on Leonard.
The Clippers have quickly denied the claims of this lawsuit, but it will be worth keeping an eye on the situation to see if more details emerge, and whether or not Leonard will be able to get himself back on the court for the team at some point in the near future.
