Some surprising names have been released from the WWE roster over the last few years and many fans were shocked when the company decided to cut ties with Shelton Benjamin in 2023. Following his WWE release Shelton Benjamin returned to the independent circuit before eventually signing with AEW last year.
Alongside MVP and Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin has formed The Hurt Syndicate and they've become one of the top acts in All Elite Wrestling over the last few months.
While speaking with Chris Jericho on Talk Is Jericho, Benjamin talked a little bit about what he wants to accomplish in AEW while admitting that he wasn't happy with his last WWE run.
"One of my big goals here and I'm not ashamed to say it is a little bit of an image rehabilitation. Again, I'm not happy with my last WWE run at all, but I'm also not one to be going 'WWE should have done this. They should have done that...' No, move on. That's for me to deal with, not for my fans.
My job now is to go and show them who I really am, what I really can do, entertain the fans and help make new talent, first and foremost. I have more ring time behind me than in front of me, and with the time that I have left, again, rehabilitate my own image while helping make new stars. That's my personal mission statement while here in AEW. Doesn't hurt to make a few bucks along the way [laughs]."
