Brown County Breastfeeding Coalition helps fund new privacy room at Neville Public Museum

GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- A grand opening celebration was held Wednesday for theNeville Public Museum's new privacy room.

Back in August, the museum was awarded a $500 mini-grant from the Brown County Breastfeeding Coalition to support the creation of a privacy room.

It's intended to be a private space where families can take time with children of all ages to feed them, comfort them, change their diapers, provide first aid or just take a break from large crowds.

Officials say the grant came at the perfect time, as the first-floor public restrooms were already being renovated.

"As part of the process, we have a space within our community room that has all the things necessary for a first aid room, a mother's room and a privacy room," said Beth Kowalski, executive director of the Neville Public Museum. "Now we've just added a much more accessible space for our community members to take part in."

The room will be outfitted with things like first aid supplies, diapers and baby wipes, toys, snacks and even dual-language books.

"So if somebody forgets something or needs something, we're going to have it," Kowalski said. "Having this privacy room was much needed."

The Brown County Breastfeeding Coalition was founded to support breastfeeding and lactation in the workplace through policy development and environmental change. It is offering a $500 mini-grant to Brown County employers interested in improving or creating lactation support policies and programs at their worksite.
