Butte County man arrested for arson, threatening key water facilities

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. -- A Butte County man has been arrested for arson in connection to a fire that threatened Miner's Ranch Reservoir, the Saddle Dam and a water treatment facility in east Oroville in late August.

According to Cal Fire's Butte Unit, firefighters responded to a vegetation fire burning at the intersection of Kelly Ridge Road and Highway 162 on Aug. 28.

Crews responded to the fire and contained it to a 30-ft. by 30-ft. spot. Cal Fire ultimately determined the cause of the fire to be arson.

Following an investigation into the fire, on Sept. 6, Cal Fire Law Enforcement served a search warrant and arrested Jesse James Creekmore, 25, for arson to wildland and delaying an investigation.

Cal Fire said Creekmore has since been booked into the Butte County Jail and is being held on a $78,000 bail.
