BROKEN BOW - The Custer County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday morning at the Custer County Courthouse in Broken Bow.
Sheriff Dan Osmond was back on the agenda after re-bidding for a sheriff's vehicle pickup. After opening one bid from Ranchland Ford and two from Gateway Motors, the supervisors approved the purchase of a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 short crew. With $16,500 trade-in value, the purchase would be fore $28,110.
The board accepted the treasurer's certification of 2024 distress warrant report. The report given to the sheriff indicated 39 items that were delinquent, which will be worked toward collecting money on or seizing the property in order to settle tax liens.
County Assessor Elise Taylor appeared for the board regarding a potential commercial contract with Central Plains Appraisal, for assistance with the upcoming tax roll for 2025. Taylor told the board the contract was as it had been with the company for several years. Supervisor Anne Gibbons expressed concern with inconsistencies in the contract as well as grammatical errors. She added that she is not against the partnership, but wants a contract that has had more effort put into it to protect the interest of taxpayers. The discussion was tabled for work to be done on the contract.
Zoning administrator Darci Tibbs expressed her desire with the board to hire a zoning consultant for a second opinion on two projects she is working on, adding that the dollars spent are in her budget already. The board extended their blessing, saying it was a good thing to do.
Kelly Flynn, Custer County Recycling Manager, presented the board with the quarterly recycling report. Since August 13, Custer County Recycling has sold $10,774.58 worth of recycled materials. Flynn said they sold a load of newspaper yesterday, and is currently lining up a load of plastic to be sold to a location in Illinois.
In other board business, one application to cross right-of-way for Custer Public Power was approved for underground power under the Sargent/Ord road. Monthly fee reports for October were approved by the board. Adams Land & Cattle gave a presentation about an upcoming project that will be taking place on their south lot location outside of Broken Bow.
During the comment period at the end of the meeting, supervisor Lynn Longmore said he had received a question from someone in his district regarding dumped trash along the road, more specifically who is responsible for picking it up if the landowner cannot. No official determination was made, but it was stated questions would be asked about to find out.
The board entered a closed session at 10:22 AM to discuss construction contract matters, no decision was made. The meeting adjourned at 11 AM.
