The Mr. Thanksgiving dinner will go on this year.

For half a century, the event provided free meals and a place for people to be together for the Thanksgiving holiday. Bob Vogelbaugh started the event in 1970.

In late October, Connie McElyea, who helped organize the event, said there would not be a 2024 edition, but did not provide more detail.

However, a news release issued Monday evening announced the event will happen and will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day at Mercado on Fifth, 423 12th St. Moline.

The food for the event will be funded in part by a donation R.I.A. Federal Credit Union, the release states.

The event, though, still needs further help from the community, according to the release, which was sent by TAG Communications. People wanting to make monetary donations can do so at the seven R.I.A. Quad-Cities locations and those wanting to volunteer can sign up at riafcu.com/MrThanksgiving.
