The new Xbox Series X|S consoles that Microsoft announced back in June have started shipping today. There are two new Xbox Series X models, with the $449.99 white all-digital model and the $599.99 Galaxy Black Special Edition model with a disc drive and 2TB SSD. The latter comes with a space-inspired finish, with little green and white dots over its black body.
The all-digital Xbox Series S is also now available in white with 1TB of storage instead of the standard 512GB. This new $349.99 model will replace the 1TB Carbon Black Edition that launched last year, which will also remain available to purchase while supplies last.
Microsoft is launching these three new consoles in select markets today, with more countries to follow on October 29. Be aware that the Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition will only be available in limited quantities.
This refreshed Xbox Series X|S lineup will go head-to-head with Sony's new PlayStation 5 Slim and upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro this holiday season. The latter, which will be released on November 7, is priced at $699.99/£699.99/€799.99. While it comes with 2TB of storage, customers will need to purchase the disc drive and vertical stand separately. In addition to doing a mid-gen refresh, Sony also made some good fan service with a retro-looking PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection.
If you're interested in purchasing a new console, it's probably best to wait for upcoming holiday discounts. Last year, the Xbox Series X with a disc drive could be purchased for less than $450 during Black Friday.
