Red Raiders in the NFL Week 1 Recap

Nine Texas Tech Red Raiders lined up in NFL action for Week 1 to begin the 2024 season, highlighted by Patrick Mahomes and his Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens in a rematch of last season's AFC Title game from Baltimore.

While former Tech players like Mahomes and Baltimore's Broderick Washington Jr. are seasoned veterans, some former Red Raiders who are rookies made their debuts in the league too.

Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs - Mahomes and the Chiefs knocked off the Baltimore Ravens 27-20 in a thriller that literally came down to the tip of Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely's cleat on the final play of the game. Mahomes completed 20-0f-28 passes for 291 yards, one touchdown and one interception while completing 71.4 percent of his passes.

Jordyn Brooks, LB, Miami Dolphins - Brooks and the Dolphins beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 20-17 in come-from-behind fashion as the former Red Raiders linebacker made his Miami debut. Brooks tallied four total tackles with one solo.

Myles Cole, DE, Jacksonville Jaguars - Cole made his NFL debut with the Jaguars in the 20-17 loss in Miami. Cole played 12 snaps with one on special teams and did not record an official stat.

Tyler Owens, DB, Washington Commanders - Owens was another Red Raider who made his NFL debut on Sunday, contributing to 16 snaps (59 percent) on special teams in the Commanders' 37-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He did not record an official stat.

Terence Steele, OL, Dallas Cowboys - Steele and the Cowboys dominated the Cleveland Browns to a 33-17 win in Cleveland on Sunday. Steele continues to be an anchor on a depleted Cowboys' offensive line and played 100 percent of the team's offensive snaps.

Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, DB, Arizona Cardinals - Taylor-Demerson made his NFL debut by playing 21 special teams snaps (78 percent) for the Cardinals. He did not record an official snap.

Broderick Washington Jr., DL, Baltimore Ravens - Washington and the Ravens fell 27-20 on opening night to the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes. Washington played 18 snaps on defense and six on special teams, recording one tackle.

Tyree Wilson, DE, Las Vegas Raiders - Wilson saw eight plays total with six on defense and two on special teams before he left the game in the third quarter with a knee injury. He has been ruled out for the team's Week 2 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. He did not record an official stat before leaving the game.

Sam Eguavoen, LB, New York Jets - Eguavoen was called up to the active roster before Week 1 to add depth to special teams. He contributed to 16 special teams plays but did not record an official stat.
