Boys Wrestling: Southern Boone 13th in tourney | Jefferson City News-Tribune

HARRISONVILLE -- The Southern Boone Eagles came in 13th place out of 24 varsity teams Friday and Saturday in the Harrisonville Christmas Tournament.

Southern Boone tallied 422.5 points in the team standings. Helias won the team title with 725.5 points.

Grant Leininger led the Eagles with a first-place finish at 157 pounds. Leininger posted a 7-0 record in the two-day event, winning four of his first five matches by fall. He also won by technical fall and major decision before claiming a 5-1 victory against Aleksandr Careaga in the title match.

Peter Heyen placed third at 106 with a 5-1 record. Heyen won three matches by fall and ended the tournament with a 5-2 win against Carthage's Randy Teo in the third-place match.

Owen Britton took fifth place at 165 with a 5-2 record and four wins by fall, while Blaine Bergthold and Ethan Shutt each took seventh place. Bergthold went 4-3 at 126 with two pins and Shutt had a 4-3 record at 150 with two wins by fall.

Others competing for the Eagles were After Dowler (3-4 at 138), Aidan Yung (3-4 at 285), Alex Gardner (2-5 at 120) and Elliot Quinn (2-5 at 144).

Southern Boone hosts Eldon and Owensville in a tri-dual Jan. 8.
