Bishop Edgar da Cunha said Thursday that the Rev. Jay Mello "recently admitted to serious misconduct" while on leave and under investigation.
Da Cunha revealed the information in a letter dated Oct. 31 released to parishioners and provided to The Herald News.
Mello was placed on administrative leave in June after the diocese began an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct with an adult. He initially denied the allegations.

Fall River bishop: 'Father Jay' Mello admitted to 'serious misconduct' in investigation
Adam Gauthier of Manhattan, formerly of Somerset, who is accused of killing a family of three during a head-on car crash on the Veterans Memorial Bridge on Christmas night, may be considering a plea deal.
Gauthier faces three counts of manslaughter while under the influence and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, all felonies. He is accused of driving a Range Rover SUV drunk the wrong way on Veterans Memorial on Christmas night in 2023 and crashing into a vehicle carrying three members of a Seekonk family.
He appeared in Bristol County Superior Court last week; this is what we know, as of this writing.

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is joining the trend of offering debt-free college degrees.
Starting with the fall 2025 semester, the UMass Dartmouth Deal will give free tuition to in-state undergraduate students with an annual household income of $75,000 or less.

Fall River's Sewer and Water Department recently opened the usually off-limits Interlachen and ice house ruins for visitors to tour.
Since tours are rare, hundreds of visitors packed the site last Saturday to get a glimpse of what's left of Interlachen, a mansion once belonging to Spencer Borden and abandoned in the 1930s.
