This year, the nonprofit Public Works Art Center in Summerville hosted a fundraising event open to the community. The area of 135 W. Richardson Ave. in front of the Public Works Art Center (PWAC) from Short Central to Cedar Street in downtown Summerville was sectioned off Saturday, Sept. 7, to create what PWAC Executive Director Jana Riley called an "immersive, fun, art-filled experience for all ages." The event replaced the PWAC's annual fundraising gala, and Riley said this year's Block Party will be the first of what will become an annual event. There were art-themed games, an artisan market, live mural painting, face painting, colorful treats, jugglers, performers of all kinds, and a stage on Cedar Street to showcase the event's nonprofit partners and some surprises.
