VERSAILLES, Ky. (WKYT) - Jasper Johnson, the 5-star guard from Versailles, has committed to Mark Pope and UK. Johnson made the announcement on Thursday at Woodford Co. High School, where Johnson played until this season.
This year, the 6-foot-4, left-handed guard took his game to Overtime Elite and Link Academy, where he became a top-15 player nationally and the No.2 overall shooting guard in the class of 2025. Johnson played on the USA Basketball Junior National U18 team in May.
Johnson is the son of former UK All-American defensive end, Dennis Johnson, who is the athletic director and head football coach at Woodford Co.
Johnson chose the Wildcats over North Carolina, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisville and others.
Three weeks ago, it looked as if Johnson's decision possibly had a tint of Crimson (Alabama) but UK coach Mark Pope and his staff came on strong down the stretch.
This gives Mark Pope a solid foundation, of high school players, for the future after needing to restructure his 2024-2025 UK roster with grad-transfers.
